SHE Software: Who are you?

Sarah: "Hi, I’m Sarah Dickerson, I’m the health and safety advisor for the arenas in the NEC Group. Within the NEC Group we have four venues. The International Convention Centre, the National Exhibition Centre, the NIA Arena and the LG Arena. We welcome over 4.3 million visitors to site each year, which equates to approximately 850 events, and we employ 2000 full-time employees."

SHE Software: How did you manage safety?

Sarah: "Historically we utilised a paper system for recording our accidents and incidents and we soon realised that we needed to have a more robust system to be able to manage that."

SHE Software: Why change?

Sarah: "Certain groups of people that were undertaking accident investigation out of hours wanted a tool that would take out a lot of duplication because they were still using handwritten accident reporting forms and it didn’t take us long to think about the advantages attached to bringing those guys on board."

SHE Software: How have things improved?

Sarah: "As our business has grown, and as we’ve been wanting, we’ve been asked from separate businesses within the groups to provide us statistical information on their areas. We’ve been able to collate a lot of the accident statistics which is something that Laura gets involved with primarily."
Laura: "So prior to the management reports within SHE, it was all very manually done. We’d haved to pull through all of the data, go into excel and create our own graphs, whereas now we can run the graphs directly through SHE."
Sarah: "The web based version, it’s been utilized within our medical centres, and then us as a safety team are alerted of incidents as and when they happen so we can react as appropriately based on the information we are given. We’ve brought on different groups of people, event safety representatives, our security co-ordinators, along with some of our event management teams. This has taken the onus off us as a safety team in a way that we can cascade use of the system within the business and we take a more umbrella approach to the overseeing of how the system is utilized."

SHE Software: What are the benefits of SHE?

Sarah: "It has the ability to sit within your safety management system, and particularly from the accident statistics that Laura collates."
Laura: "Easy to navigate as well for people who aren’t particularly computer literate."

SHE Software: What are SHE really like?

Sarah: "I think any interaction we have had with the guys at SHE has been very professional, they’ve always been really helpful, humorous. I would feel that they are approachable in a way that if me and Laura are sitting there scratching our heads about something, I could just pick up the phone and say help, and that’s what we get back."
