SHE Software: Who are you?

Gary: "Hi, I’m Gary Weatherhead, Group Compliance and Safety Manager for Palmer and Harvey."
Wendy: "Hi, I’m Wendy Browett, I’m the Group Compliance Safety Admin Assistant for Palmer and Harvey."

Gary: "Palmer and Harvey are the third largest private company in the UK, we are wholesale distributers mainly of tobacco, confectionery, general grocery goods and chilled and frozen foods. We have a fleet of 700 vehicles, which deliver daily and approximately three and a half thousand staff and more importantly 18 different distribution depots, for which I'm responsible for controlling health and safety."

SHE Software: How did you manage safety?

Gary: "The 17/18 distribution centres at that time, everything was done manually. Each distribution centre controls their own accidents but then on a group basis I need to see everything and it was a question of using the old snail mail where accident forms came through the post, were lost, didn’t get posted. We wanted a system whereby we could collate more things and monitor real time events because with the postage, I was getting accident reports a month late etc. So it was very important to have real time data in the economic climate of these days, to know what exactly is going on at our depots."

SHE Software: Why SHE?

Gary: "Cost is very competitive indeed. It gave us everything we needed, and I think useability, it's pretty straight forward."

SHE Software: What was it like working with SHE?

Gary: "Great; very, very relaxed and certainly not pushy at all because they wouldn’t have got through the door if they were pushy."

SHE Software: What do you use SHE for?

Gary: "We now use it for all accident reporting both RIDDORs and internal accidents, risk assessments and all the generic risk assessments can be put on centrally by Wendy which everyone can do, and then the depots put on their own local assessments, which again I can have a look at and approve whenever I want to."

SHE Software: Life without SHE?

Gary: "We could not do without the SHE system these days, because we use most of the modules now, and I know we’ve mentioned accident reporting but mechanical handling equipment, all of our equipment in the warehouses are logged and checked with the insurance checks and is all done in the touch of a button which is superb and there is so much time saved."
Wendy: "It's so much easier now, I mean I used to do my reportable accident stats off an excel spreadsheet but now with the management reports I can pull them all off there. Normally before we had SHE it would take two days to work out all the information, now it takes about half a day."
Gary: "We carry out a six monthly audit of our depots, it used to take two days, it now only takes a day because so much work can be done via SHE."

SHE Software: How have things improved?

Gary: "SHE saved me a lot of time, certainly Wendy can do a lot more now than previously so that takes a lot of work off me. It’s great to see everything that’s going on in the whole group in real time and efficiency has certainly improved. There is a big cost saving, it’s often hard to judge what the cost saving is, but certainly from a time point of view."

SHE Software: What would you recommend SHE?

Gary: "I’d wholly recommend it to anybody, and if anyone wants a demonstration then come and see us…as many do."
